System and storage engineer (VMware/Pure Storage/Azure) - Monday - Friday (US) 8 AM – 5 PM EST

Department: Cloud Services
Location:

At Slipstream IT, we provide managed solutions with a strategic consulting and global leadership management approach, exclusively designed for emerging pharma and biotech organizations. Our solutions free clients from the demands of internal IT and allow them to rapidly advance their mission. We're currently seeking an experienced Security Analyst to join our team and take an active role in advancing our security offering and capabilities to better serve our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Own Pure Storage and VMware operations
    • Administer and improve Pure Storage FlashArray in VMware vSphere/ESXi environments (VMFS and vVols), including host groups, volume provisioning, and nondisruptive upgrades under change control.
    • Design snapshot and replication policies using Protection Groups, SafeMode snapshots, and ActiveCluster/ActiveDR aligned to application RPO/RTO targets.
    • Troubleshoot end to end across ESXi, SAN fabric (FC/iSCSI), and array telemetry (latency, queue depth, multipathing/MPIO, noisy neighbor conditions).
  • Integrate and operate Veeam for backup and rapid recovery
    • Enable Veeam storage integration with FlashArray snapshots, coordinate application-aware processing, and schedule backup from storage snapshots to minimize VM stun.
    • Architect and maintain repositories (preferably Linux hardened), Scale-out Backup Repository (SOBR), proxies, transport modes (Direct SAN, HotAdd, NBD), backup copy and offsite tiers.
    • Implement immutability and ransomware resilience (SafeMode on arrays, immutable repositories or S3/ObjectLock as applicable) with documented break-glass and dual control.
    • Deliver rapid recovery using Instant VM Recovery, storage-level snapshots, and high-throughput restore runbooks; validate with routine SureBackup labs and periodic full-scale restore tests.
  • Administer Azure cloud services
    • Azure RBAC and Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Recovery Services Vaults, monitoring and backups.
    • Enterprise App SSO configurations (SAML, OAuth, conditional access).
    • Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, alert rules and action group tuning.
  • Manage and support hybrid environments
    • Active Directory (FSMO roles, DNS, GPO) and identity integrations.
    • VMware vSphere (host and storage integration, snapshots, HA/DRS).
    • SAN/NAS administration and Azure Files/Blob storage operations.
  • Deliver secure, compliant DNS and email integrations
    • Manage DNS zones and records (GoDaddy, Cloudflare) aligned to least-privilege and change control.
  • Implement and support RMM and patching workflows
    • ConnectWise RMM and/or Syxsense; patch orchestration and remote support utilities.
  • Operate with MSP discipline and life sciences context
    • Work collaboratively with life sciences clients, understanding GxP-aligned environments and FDA 21 CFR Part 11 expectations.
    • Execute within ITIL v4 service workflows (incident, change/CAB, request, problem); produce client-ready PIRs and audit artifacts aligned to NIST CSF recovery functions.
  • Capacity planning, monitoring, and automation
    • Monitor and forecast capacity and performance with Pure1 and vCenter; maintain 12–24 month headroom plans using conservative data-reduction assumptions.
  • Automate routine tasks with Pure REST API and PowerShell modules for provisioning, snapshot rotation, replication failover tests, and evidence reports.

Requirements for the position:

  • 4+ years in a Microsoft cloud-focused infrastructure role.
  • 4+ years in VMware vSphere and hybrid storage environments.
  • 4+ years hands-on with Pure Storage FlashArray in production.
  • Practical Veeam Backup & Replication experience (repositories, SOBR, proxies, transport modes, application-aware processing, Instant VM Recovery, SureBackup).
  • Proficiency with Purity OS and Pure1, SafeMode snapshots, Protection Groups, and replication patterns (synchronous, near-sync, async).
  • Solid fundamentals in iSCSI and Fibre Channel (zoning, HBA configuration, MPIO).
  • Scripting capability in PowerShell or Python for day-to-day automation and reporting.
  • 2+ years supporting GxP or other regulated client environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL-aligned service workflows (incident, change, problem); comfortable participating in on-call rotations and major incident response.
  • Nice to have: NVMe-oF familiarity; exposure to Kubernetes storage (for example, Portworx) and high-performance restore targets.
  • Minimum Certification: Microsoft AZ-104 and VMware VCP
  • Preferred Certification: Microsoft AZ-305 (must commit to obtain within 6 months if not held)
  • Additional Preferred Certification: Microsoft SC-300
  • Additional Preferred Certification: Pure Storage

Tool Experience:

  • Azure Portal, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics.
  • Purity and Pure1 for array administration and telemetry.
  • Veeam Backup & Replication, including storage snapshot integration and SOBR.
  • VMware vCenter and related vSphere tooling.
  • ITGlue for documentation; ServiceNow for ITSM workflows.
  • ConnectWise RMM, LogicMonitor, and Syxsense for infrastructure monitoring and patching.
  • PowerShell and Pure Storage REST API for automation.

Traits and Soft Skills:

  • Security-focused, with strong understanding of the principle of least privilege.
  • Excellent communication and documentation discipline.
  • Self-driven, team-oriented, and project-capable.
  • Calm under pressure with a client-first mentality.
