Key Responsibilities
- Own enterprise backup operations across multiple platforms
- Administer and optimize Acronis Cyber Backup environments including agent deployment, backup plan configuration, and disaster recovery orchestration.
- Manage Azure Backup Services including Recovery Services Vaults, Azure Backup Server (MABS), backup policies, and restore point collections.
- Configure and maintain AWS Backup including backup vaults, backup plans, lifecycle policies, and cross-region/cross-account backup strategies.
- Design and implement Veeam Backup & Replication solutions including job scheduling, repository management, and synthetic full backup optimization.
- Monitor and maintain backup health across all platforms
- Proactively monitor backup job completion rates, identifying and resolving failures before SLA breach.
- Maintain backup dashboards and reporting across Acronis, Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, and Veeam ONE.
- Perform regular backup verification tests including automated SureBackup testing, restore drills, and recovery time validation.
- Track and forecast backup storage consumption, retention compliance, and capacity planning across all platforms.
- Implement backup security and compliance measures
- Configure immutable backup storage including Azure Immutable Blob Storage, AWS S3 Object Lock, and Veeam hardened repositories.
- Implement backup encryption at rest and in transit, managing encryption keys through appropriate key management systems.
- Ensure compliance with retention policies, regulatory requirements, and client-specific backup mandates.
- Maintain air-gapped and offline backup copies following 3-2-1-1-0 backup strategies.
- Execute disaster recovery and business continuity procedures
- Document and maintain runbooks for various recovery scenarios (file-level, VM-level, application-level, full site).
- Perform quarterly DR tests with documented RTO/RPO validation and post-test improvement recommendations.
- Support incident response for ransomware events including clean backup identification and rapid recovery execution.
- Coordinate with infrastructure teams for recovery prioritization and application dependency mapping.
- Troubleshoot complex backup issues across environments
- Diagnose and resolve backup failures including VSS errors, snapshot issues, network bottlenecks, and storage constraints.
- Troubleshoot agent connectivity, authentication issues, and backup chain integrity problems.
- Optimize backup windows, deduplication ratios, and compression settings for performance improvement.
- Engage vendor support for escalated issues while maintaining detailed case documentation.
- Manage backup infrastructure and integrations
- Deploy and maintain backup proxies, media servers, and repository infrastructure.
- Configure storage integration including SAN snapshots, NAS targets, and cloud object storage.
- Implement backup network segregation, bandwidth throttling, and WAN acceleration where applicable.
- Integrate backup solutions with ticketing systems for automated alerting and incident creation.
- Operate within MSP service delivery framework
- Maintain backup documentation in IT Glue including architecture diagrams, runbooks, and recovery procedures.
- Process backup-related tickets in ServiceNow following ITIL workflows (incident, request, change).
- Participate in client meetings to discuss backup posture, improvement initiatives, and expansion requirements.
- Produce monthly backup reports including success rates, storage trends, and recovery test results.
- Support emerging backup technologies and platforms
- Evaluate and integrate new backup solutions as client requirements evolve.
- Support legacy backup platforms during migration projects (Code42, Commvault, Datto, MSP360).
- Implement cloud-native backup solutions for SaaS applications (Microsoft 365).
- Research and recommend backup innovations including continuous data protection and instant recovery capabilities.
Requirements
Experience Requirements
- 3-5 years hands-on experience managing enterprise backup solutions in production environments.
- Strong expertise with at least 3 of the following platforms:
- Acronis Cyber Backup (required)
- Azure Backup Services (required)
- AWS Backup (required)
- Veeam Backup & Replication (required)
- Code42 (nice to have)
- Commvault (nice to have)
- Datto (nice to have)
- MSP360 (nice to have)
- Proven track record of successful disaster recovery executions and backup recovery operations.
- Experience with backup storage technologies including deduplication appliances, object storage, and tape libraries.
- Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Python, or Bash) for backup automation and reporting.
- Experience supporting regulated industries with compliance requirements (HIPAA, SOX, GxP preferred).
- Understanding of virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V) and their backup considerations.
- Familiarity with database backup strategies (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- Experience with MSP operations and multi-tenant backup management.
